Competence Center for Artificial Intelligence in Architecture, Planning and Environment at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning (AI APE) - TU Wien
Located at the future.lab, E285 - the Platform for inter- and transdisciplinary teaching and research is offering a position as Specialist (all genders) Digital Transformation for the Center AI APE, expected to start in October, 2025 (40 hours per week, limited to 36 months until 31 December 2028 at the latest).
Context
The digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) undoubtedly represent one of the greatest challenges in architecture and planning. The increasing availability of extensive datasets and diverse algorithms opens up numerous opportunities to support analysis and planning processes.At the same time, the speed and depth with which digital transformation and AI are integrated into all fields of work pose specific challenges that require focused, strategic action within the faculty.
In this context, the "Center AI in Architecture, Planning and Environment" (AIAPE) has been established to network and further develop various research approaches and competencies at our Faculty. The goal of the center is to promote the reflective and ethically responsible use of artificial intelligence in teaching, research, and development while facilitating interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration.
The AIAPE Center will initially undergo a funding phase of three years. During this time, we aim to combine different research approaches and competencies to enhance the quality of our teaching offerings and develop innovative research methods and perspectives on new professions and fields of work.Interdisciplinary collaboration is intended not only to foster scientific exchange but also to provide practical solutions to current challenges in architecture and planning.
As part of this initiative, we are advertising the position of coordinator and program manager (PostDoc), which offers qualified and committed researchers an excellent opportunity to actively contribute to the establishment and development of the center.
Tasks:
- Responsibility for Networking and Expansion of competencies in the field of AI in architecture and planning
- Proactive Coordination of faculty-specific agendas within the TU Wien CookBook Initiative
- Collaboration with businesses and municipalities to identify research questions and needs for transformation and Initiation of interdisciplinary research projects in the context of digital transformation in architecture and planning
- Active participation and support in the development of a doctoral program within the research school of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning
- Support for ideas related to the establishment of spin-offs in the field of digital transformation
- Preparation of international conferences
Your profile:
- Completion of a relevant doctorate (architecture, planning, computer science)
- Well-documented experiences in inter- and transdisciplinary scientific work and in teaching master-level students in Architecture and Planning
- Well-documented experiences in writing grant applications
- Very good working knowledge of AI-related concepts, methods and tools including In-depth knowledge of the programming language Python or R and working experience with Jupyter notebooks
- Well-documented experiences in working with multi-domain spatio-temporal data, as well data-driven planning and / or design processes
- Teamwork
- Excellent problem-solving skills

Entry level salary is determined by the level IVB of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 3,714.80/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
